Through our combined genomics and proteomics approach we are discovering the secrets of how the castor plant makes such pure oil. This research program is expected to yield important intellectual property in the area of plant lipid metabolism. In addition, we are investigating other types of oil with interesting industrial characteristics including technology related to creating "designer" oils using engineered enzymes.
